The year in food

2010 came and went. Going back through the year’s photographs I was able to retrace a very memorable year indeed, especially when it comes to food, travel and the people I shared these things with, as most of the time I think what makes a memorable meal is actually the company.

So here’s the run down of my “Best of 2010” food memories, from left to right and down….

Tomato sorbet at Le Pain de Sucre in Corsica; my mother making gnudi for the first time; freshly shucked oysters from Greenwell Point at the South Coast, Australia; Japanese dessert at Azuma in Sydney; my manly husband in the kitchen (in a tacky Italian souvenir apron); freshly made caprino cheese in Pienza; BBQ at the beach house in Australia; lamb ragu and crispy artichokes with tajarin at Castello di Grinzane Cavour, Piemonte for Marco’s birthday; Pepita eating grapes; successful batch of homemade gnudi; relaxing by the sea after a big meal with friends at Cecina; mussels and saffron in Corsica; persimmon cake at Rovereto for New Year’s; 30th birthday lunch with friends at Podere il Casale in Val d’Orcia; truffled sausages at Falaschi in San Miniato for the Truffle festival; parpadelle with sugo bugiardo at Fattoria Il Colle near Trequanda; Rosa’s birthday at Nonna Genia, Piemonte; birthday crostone at Volpi e L’Uva in Florence; making finocchiona and salame at Poggio Alloro, San Gimignano; cicchetti e ombre dalla Vedova, Venice;  my birthday cheesecake; Stefano Amerighi’s winery on a cold autumn day near Cortona; Farmstead Inc sandwiches at RISD, Providence; burgers at the Kitchenette, Harlem, New York City; my fantastic partner in crime, Marco, with a bistecca fiorentina.

Thanks for all the inspiration.
